Daniel Hudson took the mound in a real game for the first time in a year since undergoing Tommy John surgery. He made a rehab start for Mobile last night going 2 innings allowing 1 run on 2 hits and a walk with 1 strikeout. He threw 48 pitches in all, 32 of them for strikes. With the way the M.A.S.H. unit has been overrun with Diamondbacks it's a good thing to see Daniel Hudson on the mend knowing full well the team will probably need him at some point. He's still a ways off and he'll probably spend most of the next month building up his arm strength with maybe a target of around the All Star break a reasonable goal. It could also be longer than that. No-one knows for sure right now, but last night was a great start. [Update. Or not... See below.]

Snake Stars
3 Stars: Evan Frey, Reno 3 for 4, 1 R, 1 DBL
2 Stars: Garrett Webber, 2 for 5, 1 R, 1 DBL, 1 HR (2), 3 RBI
1 Star: Diogenes Rosario, Visalia 2 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, 4 K
0 Stars: Kyle Schepel, Visalia 5 IP, 9 H, 4 BB, 3 K, 7 ER, L (2-4)

Triple A: Reno 4 Tucson 5. Reno lost its 7th game in a row in extra innings when Evan Marshall allowed a solo home run in the top of the 10th. Chase Anderson started and went 5 innings allowing 2 runs on 7 hits and 3 walks while striking out 8. Evan Frey went 3 for 4 with a double to lead the offense. Taylor Harbin had a triple and 2 RBI, Tony Campana had 2 hits and an RBI, and Chris Owings had 2 more hits giving him 91 in 59 games.

Double A: Mobile 5 @ Jacksonville 6. Daniel Hudson started and went 2 innings allowing a run on 2 hits. But this one was settled late when Jacksonville scored 4 in the bottom of the 8th off relievers Blake Cooper and Kevin Munson. The inning started with an error by Mike Freeman followed by a triple and a run-scoring single by major leaguer Logan Morrison, also down on a rehab assignment. Closer Kevin Munson was brought in and promptly surrendered a 2-run homer to Kyle Jensen. Justin Greene had 3 hits for the third consecutive game and Garrett Webber had a solo home run and a 2-run double.

High A: Visalia 5 @ Lake Elsinore 7. Starter Kyle Schepel had his third consecutive poor start allowing 7 runs in 5 innings. Visalia scored 3 in the 7th on a bases-clearing double by Gerson Montilla to make it interesting but could get no closer. David Nick went 3 for 5.

Low A: South Bend - off day.

[Update] It seems that Hudson experienced an issue that caused his appearance to be halted, and his rehab assignment has been cut short...

We'll keep an ear open for what is perhaps the first setback Hudson has had in his recovery from Tommy John surgery.
