Dbacks MiLB Round-Up 6/27: Bradley Rebounds From Poor Start

Archie Bradley took a shutout in to the 8th inning.

Less than a week ago Archie Bradley had his worst start of the season when he allowed 6 runs in 5 innings. Clearly it didn't both him much because he bounced back in fine fashion last night pitching into the 8th inning with a shutout on 2 hits in progress. The 8th didn't go so well as he loaded the bases on a walk, an error by Ryan Court and a single. He did strike out the next 2 batters with a chance to wriggle out of the jam. But he obviously hit his pitch count limit and was replaced by recently demoted Matt Gorgen who allowed all three runners to score. None of the runs charged to Bradley were earned and the game was not at risk holding a big lead. So Bradley finished with a line of 0 earned runs in 7+ innings on 3 hits and 2 walks while striking out 7 as he improved his record in Mobile to 6-3. In most organizations Bradley would be in the team's major league rotation and it's not a ridiculous argument to suggest he couldn't help the Dbacks right now. If there was an opening in the rotation (or if one were created, wink, wink) Bradley would be getting the call in my opinion. He's ready right now.

Snake Stars
3 Stars: Archie Bradley, Mobile 7.2 IP, 3 H, 2 BB, 7 K, 3 R, 0 ER, W (6-3)
2 Stars: Blayne Weller, Missoula 7 IP, 4 H, 0 BB, 10 K, 0 ER, W (1-1)
1 Star: Brad Keller, AZL Dbacks 5 IP, 3 H, 1 BB, 6 K, 0 ER, W (1-0)

Triple A: Reno 4 @ Sacramento 7.Nate Adcock started and had the team in the thick of things through 7 innings as he allowed 4 runs (3 earned). But the bullpen of Eury De La Rosa and Evan Marshall let in 3 runs between them and that was that. Only 6 hits for the Aces offense with Tuffy Gosewisch going 2 for 4 with 2 doubles and an RBI.

Double A: Mobile 9 jacksonville 3.Archie Bradley was his old dominating self last night taking a shutout into the 8th inning with just 2 hits and a walk allowed through 7 innings. The 8th got ugly as described above but overall it was a terrific performance and just showed again why Bradley is one of the highest rated prospects in baseball. There was lots of offense to report headlined by Ender Inciarte's 3 hits, Nick Ahmed's 2-run homer in the 1st and Nick Evans' 2-run homer right behind it. Rossmel Perez hit his 2nd homer and Mike Freeman had a pair of doubles and his 22nd stolen base.

High A: Visalia 4 Bakersfield 7. Cody Wheeler pitched a gem and should have earned a well-deserved victory. But the bullpen of Patrick Schuster, Tyler Green and Kaleb Fleck were pretty bad as each allowed 2 runs over the next couple of innings. The offense scratched out 4 runs with 2 doubles coming from Evan Marzilli.

Low A: South Bend 4 Bowling Green 2. Daniel Watts notched his 10th win with a another outstanding performance. This time he went 7 innings allowing 2 runs on 4 hits without a walk and with 7 strikeouts. The bullpen added 2 scoreless frames with Enrique Burgos getting his 6th save. Brandon Drury had yet another big offensive game going 3 for 4 with 2 doubles and an RBI. Fidel Pena hit his 4th home run of the year and Michael Lang his 1st

Short Season A: Hillsboro 3 @ Boise 5. Austin Platt pitched decently and left after 6 innings with the game tied at 3. Johnny Shuttlesworth came on in the 8th and surrendered 2 runs for the decision-maker. Yosbel Gutierrez went 2 for 4 with a double and a triple to pace the offense. Zach Esquerra went 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI. He's off to a fine start for the Hops.

Rookie: Missoula 5 @ Great Falls 0.Recently acquired starter Blayne Weller belongs level or two higher as he cruised through the Great Falls lineup going 7 strong innings with 10 strikeouts. The offense cranked out 14 hits with 4 going to Jose Queliz. Colin Bray went 3 for 5 with a double.

AZL Rookie: Dbacks 3 @ AZL Angels 1. Recent 8th round pick Brad Keller was outstanding going 5 shutout innings allowing just 3 hits and 1 walk while striking out 7. Blake Forslund added 3 superb innings allowing 1 hit and striking out 3. Cesar Carrasco led the offense with a double and a triple
