SnakeLines, Week 13: Hill Hits

The bullpen got off to a shaky start behind Heath "No, really - I'm alright now" Bell but pulled things together admirably, not allowing an earned run in Washington. Was it enough to get them under the line for the week?

After a wobbly couple of first games against Cincinnati, where our relievers allowed four runs in 5.1 innings of work, they settled down admirably. Indeed, they haven't allowed an earned run in four games, with only an unearned tally against Ziegler to count against them, in 12 innings of work. So, not really their fault that the Diamondbacks went 1-3 in those contests, and their sterling work in keeping Washington off the board for four frames yesterday was crucial in helping avoid a sweep at the hands of the Nationals. All told, their line for the week was as follows:
Bullpen: 17.1 IP, 14 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 6 BB, 20 K, 2.60 ERA

  • Winners (13): AJV19, Angry_Saguaro, AzDbackfanInDc, azshadowwalker, babakolo, FlannelFlapjacks, Gildo, grimmy01, GuruB, JoelPre, piratedan7, SenSurround, walleye01
  • Sinners (10): AzRattler, BigLeagueAZ, blank_38, Craig from Az, frienetic, Marc Fournier, preston.salisbury, rd33, TimInTucson, TolkienBard

I am going to exercise the authority invested in me by SnakeLines Commissioner Pete Rose, and award a bonus point to Angry_Saguaro, on a strictly one-off basis, for the combination of style and accuracy shown below. That's because a) it is the first time a SnakeLines pick has ever turned green with recs, and b) a predicted figure achieved through reasoning best described as "imaginative", came within three-hundredths of a run of nailing the actual stat. Well played, sir. Well played.

Week 13 line

We're glad to have Aaron Hill back in the line-up. It has only been three games, with Hill having gone 3-for-12, but Aaron has already homered, driving in the tying runs for the Diamondbacks during yesterday's finale in Washington. The offense just feels a lot more solid with him in the two-spot, rather than the alternatives: while names have been with-held to protect the innocent, there's no more, "Oh, god: ______ is up," it's closer to, "Oh, good: Hill is up." With three games in Atlanta and then four against the Mets, he should be an everyday staple of the line-up. But how many hits will he get?

  • Last seven games: four
  • Last seven road games: nine
  • Last series in Atlanta vs. Braves: four
  • Last series in New York vs. Mets: one (two games played)

Aaron Hill hits: 6½

Standard rules. Will the actual number be over or under? Tell us in the comments, by first pitch Friday at Turner Field (4:30pm, Arizona time). Get it right, and get a point - or maybe more, if you are particularly stylish about it! As usual, results will be next week!
