David Holmberg is putting together an awfully good season in Mobile at the age of 21 (turns 22 in a month) and he posted his best outing of the year last night with a complete game one hitter. The one hit allowed was a solo home run in the 2nd inning, and he also surrendered one walk in an efficient 94-pitch game. His peripherals just keep getting better and better too with a 2.31 ERA, 76 hits allowed in 89 innings, a .235 BAA, a K/BB of 2.41 and climbing. He's just one more minor league pitching prospect we have who is going to be putting pressure on the team to find a spot for him in their rotation as soon as 2015 if not before. I don't often feel that it does much good for pitching prospects to go to the PCL and get knocked around up there in some of those altitude parks. But it might actually be a good thing for Holmberg to start some on-the-job training against top professional hitters to refine his control game even further and learn how to get guys out who already know how to hit. It might be bumpy for him at first but it will eventually do him some good.
