Star relief pitcher Matt Reynolds has been placed on the 15-day DL with a strained left elbow. Reynolds just pitched yesterday and gave up two hits and a run in the 8th inning. Lefty Joe Paterson, who spent most of 2011 and a few games of 2012 with the Diamondbacks, has been brought up from Reno to take Reynolds's place. Paterson has a 2.36 ERA and 9.8 SO/9 ratio in 24 games with Triple-A Reno this season.

Tyler Skaggs has been sent back to Reno following two rough starts. (His first start, as part of the Memorial Day double-header, was fabulous.) Skaggs allowed five runs in under six innings in each of his last two starts, for an ERA of 8.44 and a batting average against of .304. He allowed two home runs in each game as well.

This will be Charles Brewer's first call-up to the major leagues. In 12 starts with Triple-A Reno this season, he has a 3-6 record, a 5.85 ERA - 67.2 IP, 44 ER, 7 HR. Brewer was drafted by the Diamondbacks in the 12th round of the 2009 draft out of UCLA. He spent most of 2012 with Triple-A Reno and had a combined 5.99 ERA and 1.579 WHIP.

Although he is a starter, Brewer will be pitching out of the bullpen for now. Skaggs's start was just yesterday and with the off-day Thursday, a fifth starter won't be needed until next week.
