The Diamondbacks have announced that Shortstop Didi Gregorius has been activated from the 7-Day DL, and that Alfredo Marte has been optioned to AAA Reno to make room. Didi was placed on the DL last week after he was hit in the head by a pitch from Colorado's Josh Outman. The 7-Day DL was created in 2011 by Major League Baseball to deal specifically with concussions and head/brain injuries. Didi had only played in seven games prior to his injury, but had already put up 0.7 fWar, third most of batters on the team behind Gerardo Parra and Paul Goldschmidt.
In a long expected move, Alfredo Marte was optioned to AAA Reno to make room for Gregorius on the 25 man roster. He made the opening day roster after the injuries to Adam Eaton and Cody Ross. In 48 plate appearances, he put up a line of .186/.271/.256. With Jason Kubel and Cody Ross coming off their respective DL stints as well, Marte looked like, and was, the obvious odd man out.
It is not yet known at the time of writing if Gregorius will be in the lineup for tonight's game against the Padres.
