Daniel Watts continues to excel for South Bend as he put up another terrific start tossing 7 shutout innings on 2 hits and 2 walks. The win raises his record to 7-1, lowers his ERA to 2.84 and puts him next in line for a promotion to Visalia. As we've noted in the past Watts doesn't have electric peripherals. His K/BB is 2.23, good but not great. His WHIP is 1.22, about average or slightly above average. His BAA is .250, good but not great. He just gets the job done and I'll be very interested to see if he can handle more advanced hitters. He should get that chance pretty soon.

Triple A: Reno 5 Tacoma 9. Chase Anderson wasn't his best and his defense made it even worse. He only got through 3 innings allowing 6 runs (3 earned) on 7 hits and 2 walks. Bryan Henry was very good in relief with 3 shutout innings and 4 strikeouts. Kila Ka'aihue slugged 2 more home runs to give him 13 on the year. Juan Rivera had 2 hits including a double and Chris Owings went 2 for 4 with 2 runs scored. He did have his 9th error though.
Double A: Mobile 8 Mississippi 9. David Holmberg had his worst start of the year in his matchup with Braves prospect Alex Wood. Holmberg allowed 5 runs on 10 hits and 2 walks in 4.2 innings of work. The offense made it interesting with a huge rally in the 8th when they scored 7 runs to cut the lead to 1. But they couldn't get over the hump. Newly acquired outfielder Dustin Martin went 2 for 2 with a 2-run homer and 4 RBI. Nick Ahmed hit his first homer of the year, Keon Broxton had 2 more hits, and Nick Evans went 2 for 4.
High A Visalia 1 @ Rancho Cucamonga 11. The Rawhide got waxed as starter Kyle Schepel had his worst start of the year giving up 8 earned runs in 5+ innings. The offense did have 11 hits but could only push 1 run across. David Nick, Gerson Montilla, Tom Belza and Matt Helm all had 2 hits each.
Low A: South Bend 7 Lansing 0. Daniel Watts raised his record to 7-1 with 7 shutout innings. The offense cranked out 12 hits with Rudy Flores leading with 3 including a double. Brandon Drury went 2 for 4 with a double and 2 RBI. Alex Glenn and Carter Bell each had a pair of hits and an RBI.
