Dbacks Minor League Round-Up 5/18: Delgado Delivers - Finally

Delgado had a much-needed good start last night.
Delgado had a much-needed good start last night.
Joe Murphy

Randall Delgado finally put together a good start and maybe can start to get his season untracked after a horrible start. He pitched 6.2 innings and allowed just an unearned run on 5 hits and a walk with 3 strikeouts. He needed an outing like that in the worst way as everyone has been suggesting he was a zero as one of the pieces in the Upton trade. He still may be a zero but this was at least step one to countering that claim. After all, this is a guy who was holding his own in the Atlanta rotation last year for an extended stretch. And yes, we all all know how tough it can be to pitch in the PCL, But it can't be any more difficult than pitching in the majors. Let's hope this is the beginning of something for him.

Delgado's nice outing and 2 more RBI from Kila Ka'aihue led Reno to a 5-1 win at Albuquerque. Mobile had the fortune of having Archie Bradley on the mound and he put up his worst outing to date in AA with 1 run allowed on 5 hits and 2 walks. Visalia battled back from behind--again--on the backs of Gerson Montilla and Ryan Court's 7 hits combined. And South Bend lost both ends of a double-header as the offense could only muster 10 hits in both games combined.

Snake Stars
3 Stars: Randall Delgado, Reno 6.2 IP, 5 H, 1 BB, 5 K, 1 R, 0 ER, W (1-3)
2 Stars: Gerson Montilla, Visalia 3 for 5, 2 R, 1 DBL, 1 HR (5), 3 RBI, 1 SB
1 Star: Archie Bradley, Mobile 6 IP, 5 H, 2 BB, 5 K, 1 ER, W (3-0)
0 Stars: Alfredo Marte, Reno 0 for 5, 3 K

Triple A: Reno 5 @ Albuquerque 1. Randall Delgado flashed some of that talent he supposedly has with 6.2 strong innings and the win. The offense was good enough as Kila Ka'aihue had 2 more RBI giving him a whopping 42 on the season. Chris Owings had 2 hits (as always) and Juan Rivera had 3. Ed Easley continued his good hitting with 2 hits including a double, and Tony Campana had a walk, a single and 2 stolen bases.

Double A: Mobile 4 @ Pensacola. Archie Bradley was at it again though not quite as overpowering as he's been in recent starts. He went 6 innings allowing 1 earned run on 5 hits and 2 walks with 5 strikeouts. He threw 96 pitches on the night. The offense did enough to earn Bradley the victory with Justin Greene getting 2 doubles and 2 RBI, Jon Griffin going 3 for 4, and Ender Inciarte adding a pair of singles. The bullpen added 3 scoreless innings with Kevin Munson picking up his 6th save.

High A: Visalia 8 Lancaster 4. Andrew Barbosa started but wasn't his best as he allowed 4 runs on 3 hits and 4 walks over 4 innings. Barbosa missed his last start to a leg injury and the rust was evident. But the Rawhide offense was up to the task overcoming a 4-3 deficit with 3 runs in the 6th and 3 more in the 8th. Conrad Flynn got the win with 3 scoreless innings of relief and the reliable pair of Seth Simmons and Jake Barrett closed it out. Gerson Montilla wielded the big stick with a double, a homer and 3 RBI. Ryan Court continues to swing a hot bat with 4 more hits last night. He's hitting .395 on the season.

Low A: Game 1: South Bend 3 Dayton 6.The bad Jesse Darrah showed up against Dayton as he could only get through 5 innings allowing 5 runs on 9 hits and 3 walks. The offense could only muster 3 runs on Rudy Flores' first home run of the season, and Socrates Brito's RBI triple.

Low A: Game 2: South Bend 1 Dayton 3. The offense couldn't get it going in Game 2 either with just 4 hits on the night. Spot starter Robert Coe pitched a complete game allowing 3 runs on 5 hits and a walk. But that wasn't enough with such a meager offensive effort.
