After Brandon McCarthy completed eight scoreless innings Saturday on just 88 pitches, no one could blame him for being upset with the decision to pull him in favor of the bullpen, especially considering how disappointing the relievers have been in close games this season.

Brandon McCarthy had his best outing of the season, putting himself in position to win for the first time since a horrific head injury last year. After a call to the bullpen by Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson, McCarthy's winless streak is still going.

"I think it's going to be cool," Upton said earlier this week. "I'm going to spend a few days in my own house, sleep in my own bed and play in surroundings that I'm used to. My five years there were fun. I had a blast playing there and being a part of those winning teams. A lot of friendships and relationships that I had in Arizona, they were great and I enjoyed my time there."

Both teams are playing well as they are newly structured -- the Braves (21-16) are in first place in the NL East and the D-backs (21-17) are in second in the NL West. Upton got off to a blistering start and still leads the major leagues with 12 home runs, although he does not have one in his last 40 at-bats, and his .990 OPS is sixth in the National League.
