SnakeLines, Week 6: WINZZZZZ!

After a wobbly start, the D-backs bullpen got back on track last week and gave us six strong outings. You can now join me in a chorus of "We're in the Money"...

Week 5 Review

Player G IP H R ER BB SO ERA
Heath Bell 4 4.2 2 0 0 0 4 0.00
David Hernandez 3 3.0 1 0 0 2 2 0.00
Matt Reynolds 4 3.1 2 0 0 0 3 0.00
Tony Sipp 2 1.0 1 0 0 2 0 0.00
Brad Ziegler 3 2.0 2 1 1 0 4 4.50
Josh Collmenter 2 2.1 3 2 2 0 4 7.71
J.J. Putz 1 0.0 0 0 0 1 0 Und.

It didn't look like this one was going to go well, with the bullpen allowing three runs in the first game of the week last Friday night. However, that was it for the entire week: since then, the bullpen has enjoyed a six-game scoreless streak, covering 13 innings, and allowing only six hits. It's their best since putting together a 7-game scoreless streak, which stretched over 17.1 innings, from May 11-17, 2011. Credit in particular to Heath Bell, who picked up saves on three consecutive nights - something Putz didn't have to do at all last year [he did do it twice in 2011]. I'm sure he'll be joining us in hoping for a blowout victory this evening.

Lots of points to go around, with the majority of fans coming down on the side of optimism:

  • Winners (12): AJV19, AzRattler, blank_38, Craig from Az, grimmy01, GuruB, JoelPre, Marc Fournier, SenSurround, Songbird, TolkienBard and walleye01
  • Sinners (3): AzDbackfanInDc, imstillhungry95, piratedan7

Kinda tempted to give an extra point to JoelPre, who also predicted, correctly, we'd win five games! But let's stick with the program, shall we? Bit of a beating for the SnakePit casino owners, who expressed their displeasure with the Sports Book. Very scenic, that ride into the desert... Anyway, let's throw those dozen points into the standings, and see, where does that leave us?

AJV19 holds on to his lead, but a small chasing pack also break away from the main body, and are snapping at the leader's heels.

Week 6 line

While JoelPre doesn't get any additional points, he does get credit for suggesting this week's line, which is based on the number of wins the team will get between now and next Thursday's off-day. That covers the rest of the Phillies series and the three games against Atlanta at Chase Field (a set which I'm sure has been circled on the calendar by many, for some reason or other than I can't quite remember...). Helpful, or not, numbers to help you make an informed decision:

  • Wins over the last six games: 5
  • Wins over last three games vs. PHI: 1
  • Wins over last three games vs. ATL: 1
  • Wins over last six home games: 3

Diamondbacks Wins This Week: 3

As a couple of weeks ago, there are three bets available: over, under and - if you think the team will get exactly three wins - push. The last-named will scored two points if it comes true, while over and under will get their usual single point.
