Dbacks Minor League Round-Up 4/5: Archie Bradley Dominates

Top prospect Archie Bradley started off the season in spectacular fashion with a dominating performance of 5.2 shutout innings with 9 strikeouts in a 1-0 Visalia victory. South Bend also won behind a strong outing from rising prospect Daniel Watts who surrendered one run over 6 innings. Mobile lost again to fall to 0-2 in spite of a solid start by Zeke Spruill, while Reno lost due to some shaky defense.

Triple A: Reno 2 @ Colorado 6. Chase Anderson started and wasn't terrible but his defense let him down as he surrendered 5 runs in 5+ innings, but just 2 earned. He allowed 9 hits but walked none. Anderson committed one of the three errors on a pickoff throw while Matt Davidson and Mark Teahen committed the others. Ed Easley did his best to generate some offense with 4 singles and Kila Ka'aihue added two singles and a walk. Chris Owings tallied an RBI single for his first hit of the year but also struck out 3 times.

Double A: Mobile 1 @ Mississippi 3. Newly acquired Zeke Spruill had a fine outing for Mobile allowing just a pair of runs in the first inning in a 6-inning effort. But the Mobile offense was pretty quiet for the second night in a row. Their lone run again came from a sacrifice fly by Nick Ahmed. Jon Griffin and Nick Evans each added a pair of singles. Note: Ender Inciarte was reacquired from Philadelphia through Rule 5 when they tried to send him down. He was assigned to Mobile and started in CF and batted leadoff.

High A: Visalia 1 San Jose 0. Archie Bradley was dominating through 5.2 innings as he struck out 9 and allowed just 3 hits and 2 walks. Four relievers followed Bradley and were also outstanding to make a solo home run by Sean Jamieson in the 6th stand up for a nail-biting 1-0 victory. Jake Barrett, last year's 3rd round pick pitched the 9th for his first save of the year. Evan Marzilli went 1 for 3 and stole two bases, and Raywilly Gomez went 2 for 2 with a walk and a double.

Low A: South Bend 6 Bowling Green 3. Daniel Watts picked up right where he left off from last year and spun a gem in allowing 1 run on 3 hits over 6 innings for his first win of the year. He struck out 5 and walked 2. Last year Watts proved himself the ace of a strong Yakima staff and he's off to a good start in doing the same this year for South Bend. Not bad for a 32nd round pick in last year's draft. Breland Almadova paced a balanced attack going 1 for 3 with a walk, a triple and a stolen base. Fidel Pena added a double and a stolen base and Ryan Court had a double and 2 walks.
