Dbacks Minor League Round-Up 4/22: Hard Luck Losses

Brandon Sinnery was outstanding in his first professional start.
Brandon Sinnery was outstanding in his first professional start.

Three teams were in action last night and all were losses by scores of 3-1, 1-0 and 1-0. Charles Brewer, Zeke Spruill and Brandon Sinnery all had good starts but the offenses across the board were non-existent. Reno managed just 3 hits, while Mobile and South Bend gathered 5 each. It was a real eye-opener performance from Brandon Sinnery, a minor league free agent signed in the off-season who pitched for Michigan in college and in the Independent League last year. It was his first professional start after two excellent relief appearances and all he did was toss 7 shutout innings with 8 strikeouts. He may have muscled his way into an excellent South Bend rotation.

Snake Stars
3 Stars: Brandon Sinnery, South Bend 7 IP, 5 H, 2 BB, 8 K, 0 ER
2 Stars: Zeke Spruill, Mobile 8 IP, 3 H, 3 BB, 2 K, 0 ER
1 Star: Matt Gorgen, Reno 1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 BB, 1 K, 0 ER
0 Stars: Socrates Brito, South Bend 0 for 4, 2 K

Triple A: Reno 1 @ Sacramento 3. Charles Brewer was on the hill and was pretty solid allowing 3 runs on 4 hits and 3 walks over 5 innings while striking out 4. Unfortunately that couldn't keep up with Sacramento's pitchers who allowed just 3 hits on the night. Joe Paterson and Matt Gorgen combined for 3 shutout innings of relief but the offense just couldn't do anything. Matt Davidson drove in the lone run with a single.

Double A: Mobile 0 Mississippi 1. Zeke Spruill was sharp once again tossing 8 shutout innings on 3 hits and 3 walks lowering his ERA to 1.35 on the season. He only struck out 2 but he did induce 12 ground outs including 2 double plays. Bryan Woodall took the ball in the 9th and surrendered a single and a double for the lone run of the game. Nick Ahmed went 2 for 4 to pace the meager offense.

High A: Visalia. Travel day.

Low A: South Bend 0 Great Lakes 1. A virtual carbon copy of the Mobile game as Great Lakes scratched out a run in the top of the 9th for the 1-0 victory. Minor league free agent Brandon Sinnery was terrific in his first professional start with 7 shutout innings and 8 strikeouts. He has now started his Dbacks career with 13 shutout innings. Will Locante took the loss when he hit a batter with 2 outs in the 9th, made a wild pickoff throw that let him get to third, and surrendered a single to score him. Brandon Drury had 2 more hits raising his average to .250 after making our Cold 9 list on Sunday. He's 8 for his last 16.
