Diamondbacks 6, Yankees 2

Once again, the Diamondbacks took an early lead. And once again, it was squandered late. And once again, it took getaway-day-extra-inning magic to get the win.

Didi Gregorius Arizona debut was one to remember. He hit the first pitch he saw for a solo home run in the third inning. He followed that up with a double in the 5th, and even reached on catcher's interference in the 9th.

Patrick Corbin had family in the stands for his start, and he was superb: 7 innings, 2 hits, 7 Ks, and one solo Robinson Cano home run. With only a 2-1 lead, J.J. Putz blew the save, allowing a home run to Francisco Cervelli.

The Diamondbacks finally blew it open in the 12th inning off of reliever David Phelps. They loaded the bases on a double, catcher's interference (again) and hit-by-pitch. Cody Ross singled in a run, and Eric Chavez hit a bases-clearing double to deep center field.

Matt Reynolds and Heath Bell pitched scoreless 10th and 11th innings, and Tony Sipp closed it out for the save. The Diamondbacks leave Yankee Stadium with a win.
