Quotient Quotables

I was just trying to get a good pitch to hit and luckily it just found a hole. It wasn’t a bad swing, but I was way out in front and kind of capped it off the end of the bat. Luckily it kind of spun away from their second baseman and went through the hole.

-- Paul Goldschmidt

You can’t take Goldschmidt out of the lineup. Why would you do that? I understand. If he ever wants to start me, I’ll go in there and do what I can. But I’m happy with my role.

-- Eric Hinske

Of all the organizations I have worked for, I have never been treated better by anybody than the Diamondbacks have treated me. So I cried about four times. That’s how emotional it was. It’s kind of sad, but it’s a happy sadness.

-- Joe Garagiola Sr

The 4th ever triple-header in baseball history?

[Update] No Mets-Rockies triple-header after all | HardballTalk

Marc Carig tweets that Horwitz was having some fun, so this was just a fun imaginative exercise in the end. Triple headers are now prohibited under the current collective bargaining agreement, except when the first game is the conclusion of a game suspended from a prior date. This would only happen in the extremely rare case of the only remaining dates between teams being doubleheaders and no single games are left for the suspended game to precede.
