Dbacks Minor League Round-Up 4/11: Solid Start by Hessler

Only two games were on tap Thursday as South Bend had an off-day and Mobile got rained out. In keeping with the early theme of the Dbacks' minor leaguers another starting pitching put up a good outing. This time it was Keith Hessler of Visalia. His effort wasn't quite as exciting as some of the others we've seen of late but was noteworthy in its own right. Hessler surrendered just one earned run in 7 innings of work with 3 strikeouts. Unfortunately it wasn't enough to get a victory as Visalia lost a squeaker 3-2.

Reno lost their third straight to Salt Lake as starter Chase Anderson had a rough first inning in a 6-4 defeat.

Snake Stars
3 Stars: Keith Hessler, Visalia 7 IP, 10 H, 0 BB, 3 K, 2 R, 1 ER
2 Stars: Kila Ka'aihue, Reno 2 for 4, 1 BB, 1 DBL, 2 RBI
1 Star: Ed Easley, Reno 1 for 3, 1 BB, 2 RBI (hitting .643)
0 Stars: Sean Jamieson, Visalia 0 for 4, 2 K

Triple A: Reno 4 @ Salt Lake 6. Chase Anderson had a disaster first inning when he allowed 4 runs that created a hole the offense couldn't overcome. He did settle down after that and allowed just 1 more run over the next 5 innings. But the damage had been done. The offense was led by Kila Ka'aihue who went 2 for 4 with a walk and 2 RBI. Ka'aihue is off to a hot start on the season with a .980 OPS through the first 8 games.

Double A: Mobile. Rained out.

High A: Visalia 2 @ San Jose 3. Keither Hessler's solid start was wasted when the offense could only manage 2 runs on 6 hits in a 3-2 loss. Hessler got through 7 innings and left with the game tied at 2. But reliever Diogenes Rosario allowed a walkoff run-scoring double in the bottom of the 9th. The Visalia offense has really been scuffling so far this year. A lot of the Rawhide squad is made up of last year's South Bend team which was similarly offensively challenged. Rising prospect Jake Lamb has missed the last couple of games with an undisclosed injury but the word from the Rawhide front office is that it's not serious and he's day-to-day.

Low A: South Bend. Travel day.
