Diamondbacks Spring Training Gameday Thread, #11, vs. Reds

A tall, familiar face was seen at Salt River Fields this morning, as D-backs legend Randy Johnson swung by to take in the seen and chat with the players and staff.

A familiar 6'10 southpaw talks w/ @SippTony & Kirk Gibson @SaltRiverFields while pitchers throw bullpens. #BigUnit

  3. Eric Chavez 3B
  4. Jason Kubel LF
  5. A.J. Pollock RF
  6. Eric Hinske 1B
  7. Wil Nieves C
  8. John McDonald 2B
  9. Brandon McCarthy P
+ pitchers Starling Peralta, Tony Sipp, Garrett Mock and Zeke Spruill

Things will look kinda different for the next week or more, since as noted earlier, we've lost a number of players to the World Baseball Classic, while Aaron Hill and Cody Ross are nursing booboos. The result is a starting line-up which, particularly in the lower half and unlike many we've seen, has more players in it than not, whom we probably won't see on Opening Day.

Just completed a questionnaire on the WBC. Interesting selection of reasons provided for why I bought tickets:

I just love baseball, and will take the opportunity to watch games whenever I can
Watching top MLB players representing their county
Watching championship baseball in the spring
The chance to see non-MLB players from around the world up close
Watching players compete for national pride
I want to see the national team for the country I plan to root for
I enjoy watching top international sports competitions
I attended a previous World Baseball Classic and enjoyed the experience.
I had heard previous WBCs were fun and wanted to check the event out myself.

[You can check the boxes, but they won't do anything!] I went for 1, 4 and 8.
