There should also be news as some point today, with regard to Willie Bloomquist's MRI - he had it to see if there was any structural damage to the oblique which caused him to leave the game last night. If so, then we should probably make alternate plans. However, it's games like last night which do appear to give support to the claim that spring training may simply have been too long this year.
We start Figueroa, because we are now into the final week, and don't want the Giants to become too comfortable or get too many at-bats against the regular rotation. It's probably no coincidence that this is the only game we have against an NL West team between March 19 and Opening Day. Curious to see how Figueroa does against what will likely be a full-strength Giants line-up. He's not going to make the rotation immediately, I suspect, but a good performance here will certainly keep him in mind when the inevitable Reno call-ups are needed.
