OFFICIAL: #Dbacks acquire OF Tony Campana from the @cubs in exchange for right-handed pitchers Jesus Castillo and Erick Leal.
— Arizona Diamondbacks (@Dbacks) February 18, 2013
In a move that I would assume is about Outfield depth, or maybe it's just phase II in a world domination plan, the Diamondbacks have acquired Tony Campana from the Chicago Cubs for Jesus Castillo and Erick Leal. Campana was DFA'd by the North Siders just a few days ago.
Campana has put up a career line of .262/.306/.300 in two partial Major League seasons with the Cubs. He has been known as a speedster during his career. He also has some fancy moves on the basepaths:
As far as the pieces the D'Backs sent to Chicago: Castillo put up an over 5.00 ERA in the Dominican Summer League last season, and Leal was considered the 35th best prospect in the system according to this very website back in August.
According to Nick Piecoro, Campana has options left, so Reno may be his most likely destination. To make room for Campana on the 40 man roster, Daniel Hudson has been put on the 60-Day DL.
You may now calibrate your pre-existing opinions of Kevin Towers for the inevitable 400 comment argument that is about to ensue.
