It's quite refreshing to have abandoned any sense of significant investment in the outcome of Diamondbacks games. Something like last night, if I'd still given a damn, would have been a horrific ordeal, that would have wrung ever ounce of adrenalin from my body, and left me tossing and turning half the night. Instead, it was more a case of "Hey, they won - that's nice. Adam Eaton got a couple of hits in his first game, good on the kid. Cool catch by Upton. Time for bed, I think." Apathy, it appears, has its plus points: it's certainly a good deal more relaxing, and after about 250 consecutive games where I genuinely, seriously, deeply cared, it makes for a nice change.
kishi on the recap. There'll be a line-up after the jump. Probably.
- Adam Eaton CF
- Aaron Hill 2B
- Justin Upton RF
- Paul Goldschmidt 1B
- Miguel Montero C
- Chris Johnson 3B
- Gerardo Parra LF
- John McDonald SS
- Trevor Cahil P
Don't get me wrong: I still want to win. It's just that I've gone through the five stages of baseball grief and so have arrived at Acceptance. Hey, there's always next year. And a month from today, I'll be staring at a winter filled with the NFL, and bemoaning the lack of baseball. So, gather ye enjoyments while ye may.
