Diamondbacks 8, Cubs 2: Cahill Cruises, Cubs Crash

The Diamondbacks inflicted the 99th loss of the season on the Cubs tonight, condemning them to their worst season in approaching half a century. Trevor Cahill took a shutout into the ninth inning for Arizona, and threw his second complete game for us, allowing only four hits and a trio of walks in a 126-pitch effort. He also drove in two runs, with a single and bases-loaded walk.

That alone would have been almost enough offense, but Aaron Hill and Justin Upton also combined for five hits, four runs and five RBI. Arizona just needs to split the remaining four games of the 2012 campaign, to have a winning record for the year.

Full recap to follow shortly.
