Quite a lot is riding on today's double-header, with the Diamondbacks' season on life-support, after the morale-sapping loss suffered last night. We turn to another of our top pitching prospects, as Skaggs makes his major-league debut. If it goes well, today's game could mark the end of Joe Saunders, whom Ken Rosenthal reports was placed on trade waivers. In fact, if it goes badly, it might be the end anyway, if management decides to pull the plug on the 2012 campaign, and build toward next year instead. I'm hoping for the former: after the disappointment which was Bauerpalooza 2012, could do without another pitching prospect being not ready for prime time.
kishi is on the early recap. Of course, don't forget, this is a double-header, with another game scheduled for tonight. Line-up for the day portion after the jump
- Gerardo Parra RF
- Aaron Hill 2B
- Jason Kubel LF
- Paul Goldschmidt 1B
- Miguel Montero C
- Chris Young CF
- Ryan Wheeler 3B
- Jake Elmore SS
- Tyler Skaggs P
Gibson hopes that Young, Hill, Kubel and Goldschmidt will be able to play both ends of the double-header, but that he expects to rotate some of the other personnel in and out. Obviously, Wil Nieves will likely catch the night-cap, and we may see Chris Johnson at third and A.J. Pollock in the outfield somewhere, though I'm not sure if John McDonald will be able to play.
