Diamondbacks Minor League Round-Up 8/13: Playoff Stretch

New, comments

Lots of teams off last night so not too much to talk about. Archie Bradley was scheduled to pitch but South Bend was rained out. Mobile and Visalia had travel days. So let's look at which of our teams are in playoff contention in the second half. The Reno Aces lead the PCL Pacific North Division by 7 games over Colorado Springs and look to be in good shape to make the playoffs, especially if Bauer and Skaggs remain in the rotation. Mobile is having a pretty bad second half but they won the first half so they're already in the playoffs. Visalia didn't qualify in the first half but they're only a game out in the 2nd half so they're definitely in the hunt. South Bend did not qualify in the first half and they're 3.5 games out of a playoff spot in the second half with lots of teams competing for those spots, so they have a little work to do. Yakima won the first half so they're already qualified for the playoffs. Missoula did not qualify in the first half but they are tied for first place in the second half so they're in a dog fight. The AZL Dbacks are 9 games out of first place and are not going to make the playoffs.

Game summaries after the jump.

Triple A: Reno 3 Albuquerque 5. The Aces lost their 3rd game in a row as the offense was pretty light and Joe Martinez was less than stellar. Martinez surrendered 5 runs on 11 hits and 3 walks in 4.2 innings. Only 6 hits on offense with Tyler Bortnick getting two of them on singles. Adam Eaton went 1 for 3 with a walk and his 35th stolen base.

Short Season A: Yakima 0 @ Vancouver 6. Nothing much to talk about in this one as Kyle Owings didn't pitch badly but the defense let him down and he ended up yielding 5 runs (2 earned) on 5 hits and a walk in 4.2 innings. He only struck out one. The offense had just 4 hits with Josh Parr knocking a double and an RBI.

Rookie: Missoula 10 Ogden 3. As is happening a lot lately the Missoula offense showed up in force with 10 runs on 17 hits to support a solid outing from Karl Triana. Triana tossed 6 innings allowing 3 runs (2 earned) on 4 hits with 2 walks while striking out 7. Socrates Brito rapped two doubles and had 2 RBI. Evan Marzilli had 3 singles to raise his average to .362. Five other Osprey hitters had at least 2 hits.

AZL Rookie: Dbacks 2 Indians 10. The Dbacks got waxed early and often in this one. Geordy Parra did not have a good night on the mound nor did Chase Brewer behind him.The offense had just 4 hits with Stryker Trahan getting the only extra base hit, a double. Andrew Velazquez went 0 for 4 with 3 more strikeouts to give him 7 ks in his last 9 at bats.
