Ryan Wheeler to be called up from Reno, Geoff Blum to be released

More moves for the Diamondbacks today. Our first news was Nick Piecoro mentioning on Twitter that Ryan Wheeler would be called up to the big league club today. Wheeler has been putting up good numbers in the minors for the Aces- a .351/.388/.572 with 15 home runs is a nice bump in power over his previous seasons, and though he isn't drawing too many walks, hopefully he'll be an upgrade at the third base spot. Obviously, standard PCL skepticism must apply, but we can hope. sonic barracuda gave us a look at Wheeler last month, which is worth a reread.

The corresponding move, also announced on Twitter, is that Geoff Blum's release will be announced by the Diamondbacks later today. Blum's time with the Diamondbacks has not been spectacular, putting up a sub-.200 batting average and spending some significant time on the DL in both seasons.

So the era of Good Wheeler begins? Obviously, we need an upgrade in the third base department, offensively speaking- when Cody Ransom has given you your best production in the position on the season, things can only get better, right? Right? Also, what does this mean for our upcoming deadline moves? Are we settling back, accepting that this season isn't meant for much, and we should give the prospects some time in the sun? Only time will tell on that.
