Game #79, and the last of our NL West rivals finally make their season debut at Chase Field. We may have air-conditioning at Chase, but scheduling a July series against the Padres here, rather than San Diego, is a bit like scheduling Opening Day for Coors Field. It doesn't make an enormous amount of sense. The powers that be could even have put this on the same weekend as some little convention thing I've heard goes on in San Diego during July too; not sure what that's all about. Sure they'd appreciate a boost in attendance.

Hey, I'm 'capping! What are the odds? Er, about one in seven, I guess.

  1. Willie Bloomquist SS
  2. Aaron Hill 2B
  3. Justin Upton RF
  4. Paul Goldschmidt 1B
  5. Miguel Montero C
  6. Chris Young CF
  7. Ryan Roberts 3B
  8. Gerardo Parra LF
  9. Trevor Cahill P

Montero and Parra both in there against left-handed pitchers: we'll see how this works out. [I'd like to point out the genius of the preceding sentence, is that no matter what happens, I can refer to it in the recap and say, "Told you so." Oops. Did I say that out loud?] The last D-backs Chase Field stand went pretty well, with the bats carrying the team over just about all that stood in their way. Doing so again would be nice: June was a good month for the D-backs, but July started off tasting like a suck sorbet. Time for some home cooking.
