Diamondbacks Minor League Round-Up 7/17: Reno Takes Doubleheader

Reno swept a doubleheader yesterday due to some fine pitching performances throughout the staff. Game one was a continuation of the suspended game from Monday and the second game was a 7-inning contest. Patrick Corbin had been off to a good start in the Monday contest before weather chased everyone away. It was Corbin's first start since being sent down to make room for Joe Saunders. He pitched 3 innings and allowed a hit and a walk with 3 strikeouts. Corbin now seems very comfortable dealing with advanced hitters whether it's at the Major League level or in the PCL. I fully expect this to be his last stint in AAA. His next call-up will be for good. In my opinion he belongs on the Big League roster right now.

Snake Stars
3 Stars: A.J. Pollock, Reno 4 for 4, 1 R, 2 DBL, 2 RBI
2 Stars: Gerson Montilla, Visalia 2 for 5, 2 R, 1 HR (5), 2 RBI
1 Star: Josh Bell, Reno 2 for 2, 1 DBL, 2 RBI
0 Stars: Chris Owings, Mobile 0 for 5, 1 K

Game summaries after the jump.

Triple A game 1: Reno 4 @ Tucson 1. In the continuation of the suspended game from Monday, after three shutout innings by Patrick Corbin, relievers Bryan Henry, Matt Gorgen and Jonathan Albaladejo added 6 more innings of 1-run ball to cinch the victory. It was Albaladejo's 17th save. A.J. Pollock was the hitting star with a perfect 4 for 4 night including 2 doubles and 2 RBI. Ryan Wheeler went 2 for 4 with a double and Adam Eaton added a pair of singles.

Triple A Game 2: Reno 3 @ Tucson 1. In the 7-inning second game of the doubleheader, Joe Martinez was pretty sharp going 5 innings allowing 6 hits and a walk for 1 earned run. Sam Demel and Jensen Lewis each added a perfect inning to seal the game. Josh Bell had 2 hits with a double and 2 RBI and Jake Elmore had a couple of singles.

Double A: Mobile 2 @ Montgomery 3. The Bay Bears couldn't escape the 1-run loss in spite a decent outing from Gaby Hernandez. He yielded just 4 hits and a walk in 6 innings but it led to 3 runs in spite of racking up 7 strikeouts. The offense couldn't quite get it going with just 5 hits on the night. Alfredo Marte had a double, 2 walks and an RBI in 4 plate appearances. Evan Frey went 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI.

High A: Visalia 3 @ Modesto 4. The Rawhide lost a 1-run affair as well in 11 innings. Ray Hernandez surrendered only 2 runs in spite of allowing 6 hits and 5 walks due to a couple of timely double plays. The offense racked up 13 hits but hit into 4 double plays of their own to limit themselves to just 3 runs. Michael Freeman and Garrett Webber each had 3 hits, but none for extra bases, no runs scored and no RBI. Ender Inciarte and Gerson Montilla each had two hits with Montilla clubbing his 5th homer since his promotion and Inciarte stealing his 15th base.

High Rookie: Yakima 0 @ Boise 6. Nothing of interest in this game as Kyle Owings had a shaky start and the offense managed just 3 hits. Nothing to see hear...move along.

Low Rookie: Missoula 2 Orem 11. Not much to see here either as Orem scored in every inning from the 2nd through the 7th. Yoimer Camacho got mauled as did a couple of relievers behind him. The only offense of note was a 2-run homer from Socrates Brito, his first of the year.
