Archie Bradley took the hill today in South Bend and had a really good outing. But the big star of the day was Charles Brewer who led the red-hot Reno Aces to another win with a complete game victory. Brewer has had a rough go of things in AAA but last night was another great sign that he's settling in and learning how to get top shelf hitters out. Bradley only surrendered 1 run but South Bend lost 1-0, while Mobile and Visalia got waxed again by Birmingham and Lake Elsinore, respectively.

Game summaries after the break.

Triple A: Reno 6 @ Las Vegas 2. Charles Brewer was terrific in tossing a complete game to lead the club to an easy 6-2 win. He only allowed 3 hits (though two were solo homers) and struck out 9 while walking none. Considering some of the rough outings Brewer has had this year in the PCL he's really starting to get it together and has a 2.98 ERA in the hitter's paradise over his last three starts. Adam Eaton continued his hot hitting with a 3 for 5 day with a double and a triple, while Randy Ruiz, Mike Jacobs and Cole Gillespie all homered. Ryan Wheeler went 3 for 5 with an RBI.

Double A: Mobile 3 Birmingham 8. The Bay Bears can't wait until Birmingham leaves town because they got spanked again 8-3, their third straight loss against them. Unfortunately they have two more to go and lost the first three by a combined score of 33-16. Mike Bolsinger couldn't get out of the 3rd inning and earned the zero stars award. Alfredo Marte, Brent Clevlen and Wladimir Sutil each had two hits. Matt Davidson went 0 for 3 lowering his average to .267 and is hitting just .189 in his last 10 games with 11 Ks.

High A: Visalia 1 @ Lake Elsinore 8. As Mobile feels about Birmingham, Visalia feels about Lake Elsinore, losing their third straight. Jeffrey Shields was the runner-up candidate for zero stars as he only pitched 4 innings giving up 8 hits and 6 runs. Michael Freeman went 1 for 4 with a double. Nothing else to see here. Move along.

Low A: South Bend 0 Lansing 1. Archie Bradley had a very Archie Bradleyish performance in a nice pitcher's duel with Lansing's Marcus Walden. Bradley was the loser surrendering a single run on 2 hits and 4 walks while fanning 4. It was a lot better than his last outing which was the worst of his young career. The Silver Hawks managed just 2 hits on the night. Seth Simmons (he of the 0.93 ERA) struck out 4 in 2.1 innings of relief and hasn't surrendered a run in forever. He's bucking to get promoted.

DSL: Dbacks 4 @ Padres 2. Jim suggested not covering the DSL team and I might be tempted to skip it quite often, but I couldn't resist highlighting the professional debut of Anfernee Benitez, a 16-year old LH pitcher out of Panama who pitched 5 innings, giving up just 3 hits and 1 ER while striking out 8. Those are the kind of performances that get you sent to the States. Maximo Sosa (love that name) went 2 for 4 with a double, an RBI and a walk.
