Minor League Round-Up 6/17: Chase Anderson Returns From DL

I know it's hard to believe but the Reno Aces actually lost a game yesterday. They lost properly at least getting thumped 10-4. Chase Anderson returned from the DL for Mobile and pitched 2 scoreless innings to start the team off on a 10-0 beat down of Pensacola to close out the first half of their season. Jesse Darrah had a pretty solid outing, but South Bend tied their game in the bottom of the 9th only to lose in 14 innings. Yakima got their first win of the season thanks to a boat load of errors by Eugene. Visalia was off and Missoula opens their season today.

Game summaries after the break.

Triple A: Reno 4 Tucson 10. Barry Enright got off to a very rough start by allowing 5 runs in the first inning. He actually settled down after that giving up just 2 runs over the next 5. The Reno bats couldn't overcome the deep hole, though they had their chances by cranking out 11 hits. But they went 1 for 12 with RISP and left 11 on base. Ryan Wheeler maintained his hot hitting with a pair of hits including a solo homer, his 9th of the year. Jake Elmore had 3 hits including a double to get his average up to .395.

Double A: Mobile @ Pensacola 0. Chase Anderson returned from the DL to start for Mobile and went 2 innings with 2 Ks before being pulled. Derek Eitel came on and tossed 4 perfect innings to earn the win. Eury De La Rosa, Matt Gorgen and Kevin Munson chipped in with a shutout inning each. The staff as a whole allowed only 3 hits and 0 walks. Rossmel Perez led the hitting assault with 3 hits, two of which were doubles, and an RBI. Evan Frey had 2 hits and 2 walks. Mark Krauss had a pair of singles and an RBI. And Vladimir Sutil had 2 doubles and 2 RBI. David Nick hit his 2nd home run of the season. Mobile enters their All Star break with the game being played on Tuesday. The Southern League All Star roster includes the following players from Mobile: Matt Davidson, David Nick, Mark Krauss, Alfredo Marte, Tyler Skaggs, and Evan Marshall.

Low A: South Bend 3 West Michigan 4. Jesse Darrah had a solid start for South Bend by allowing 3 runs over 7 innings on 6 hits and 3 walks. He did give up a pair of home runs. He was set to take the loss when the offense bailed him out with an unearned run in the bottom of the 9th to tie the game at 3. The game went 5 more innings before the Silver Hawks lost in the 14th inning. Chris Ellison went 3 for 6 with a double and 2 RBI. Ryan Court had 2 hits including a double, and Gerson Montilla had a couple of singles. ASU's Jake Barrett threw his third perfect inning for South Bend to get his professional career off to a nice start. He may get promoted very soon.

High Rookie: Yakima 7 @ Eugene 2. Yakima won its first game of the year 7-2 to avoid getting swept to start the season. Recent Cuban signee Alexander Carreras got the start and was very good in going 6 innings with 8 hits, 2 walks and a solo homer, the only run he allowed. The Eugene defense had a meltdown in the 6th with 4 errors, 3 on consecutive plays by their 3rd baseman. It was enough to make a winner of Carreras as they plated 6 during the fracas. Josh Parr had 2 of the team's 5 hits including a double and Shaun Cooper hit his first professional homer. Carreras, a lefty who the Dbacks signed for $400,000 last December, started the year in Visalia but got hit pretty hard up there. The team will now give the 22-year-old a little easier spot to get his career on track in Yakima. It's not exactly the direction you want to see $400,000 free agents going. He's a tad old for Yakima.
