This Day In Diamondbacks History: May 30

Overall: 7-5 - Home: 1-2 - Road: 6-3

  • 2003: Curt Schilling suffered a fracture in his pitching hand after being struck by a line drive off the bat of a Padre in the seventh inning of the 8-3 win at Qualcomm. Though he would get the win, Schilling would miss six weeks due to the injury. And which San Diego hitter was responsible for the blow? None other than future Diamondback Sean Burroughs. Steve Finley had three hits and drove in three runs for Arizona, with Alex Cintron, Danny Bautista and Junior Spivey each having two-hit games.
  • 2003: The Arizona Diamondbacks purchased the contact of Brady Raggio from the independent Bridgeport Bluefish, where he had made four starts with a 2.93 ERA. However, he couldn't reproduce that and had a 6.48 ERA out of the D-backs bullpen. That was actually an improvement over his career figure of 8.10 in 29 games - Raggio is one of only 12 pitchers in the modern era to have a career ERA over eight in that many appearances.
  • 2006: Miguel Bautista earned a complete game, 7-2 victory in New York against the Mets. Bautista scattered nine hits and a walk, striking out three, in a 124-pitch effort for the Diamondbacks. Conor Jackson hit a three-run homer off loser Alay Soler, as part of a four-run fifth inning, after Eric Byrnes led things off there with a solo shot. Chad Tracy and Johnny Estrada had two-hit games for Arizona, in a line-up which featured six batters who ended the night hitting .295 or better.
  • 2011: It was a Memorial Day to remember for Justin Upton, as he went 5-for-5 in a 15-4 mauling of the Florida Marlins at Chase Field. He drove in three runs and finished a triple short of the cycle. Arizona pounded five home-runs, including a pair off the bat of Kelly Johnson. Miguel Montero also homered, one of his three hits, and drove in five runs. Joe Saunders was the beneficiary of this run support, getting the win despite allowing four runs on seven hits and two walks over six innings.
