Battle of the crafty, over-achieving lefties today. If you'd said at the start of the year, that this match-up would involve the starters with the lowest ERAs for their respective teams, I'd have looked at you more than a bit oddly. But that's exactly the case, with both guys having largely been a pleasant surprise to their teams - particularly Zito, whom San Francisco fans had long regarded as the very definition of "sunk cost". He's been good to very good in most of his outings, and the same can be said for Joe, though his last start was not so much regression to the mean, as some way on the other side of it.

Line-up after the jump. In the absence of a guest recapper - understandable, this being Mother's Day - you've got me on the recap. Which is fine, since my mother is 5,000 miles away, and the UK version of Mother's Day was two months ago, so I am not exactly feeling obligated in this regard!

  1. A.J. Pollock CF
  2. Jason Kubel LF
  3. Justin Upton RF
  4. Paul Goldschmidt 1B
  5. Miguel Montero C
  6. Cody Ransom 3B
  7. Ryan Roberts 2B
  8. John McDonald SS
  9. Joe Saunders P

Interesting line-up with the regular middle-infield of Willie Bloomquist and Aaron Hill both getting the day off, as is CF Gerardo Parra. Pollock gets to hit lead-off instead, with Roberts playing second-base and Mac Daddy on the other side of the bag. As we say on Friday, the Giants do struggle against left-handed pitching - but then, so do the Diamondbacks. Let's see what unfolds, and leave it at that...
