Some news coming through the wire this afternoon, beginning with Nick Piecoro speculating this morning that left-hander Mike Zagurski will be joining the D-backs from Triple-A Reno. Later on, RGJ.com's Chris Gabel - a beat reporter for the Reno Aces - reported that not just Zagurski, but right-hander Joe Martinez as well, will be joining the D-backs, though Gabel was unsure of any corresponding moves.

Jack Magruder has confirmed that Martinez and Zagurski have been called up. As we earlier speculated below the jump, Joe Paterson and Jonathan Albaladejo are out - Steve Gilbert reports that there are no lockers for them today.

Update. The official press release states that Paterson was optioned to Reno and Albaladejo designated for assignment.

As pure speculation, Now confirmed, it'd be hard to imagine a scenario in which Zagurski joins the club while Joe Paterson also stays around, as the latter's struggles and minor-league options make him a mortal lock to be heading to the minors. It is now confirmed that Paterson will head to AAA Reno.

As for Martinez's spot, it seems that the odd man out in the big-league bullpen is likely recent addition Jonathan Albaladejo. With Josh Collmenter starting for Arizona tonight, I imagine that the club wanted to have some extra length out of the bullpen, given Collmenter's struggles. With previous long relief stuntman Wade Miley not available in relief due to his (phenomenal) start last night, it looks like Martinez is being called upon to make sure that Collmenter's leash remains short. Albaladejo has been designated for assignment.

This news has been confirmed by the Dbacks beat writers. We'll update the story with any official press releases from the Diamondbacks.
