D-backs 5, Rockies 7: Miley Sees 17th W Slip Away, D-backs Lose in 13

A strange reluctance by Kirk Gibson to go to our most dominating reliever David Hernandez, and protect a one-run lead, may have cost Wade Miley his 17th victory of the season, and perhaps the Rookie of the Year award. With the Diamondbacks leading 2-1 going in to the eighth, Gibson left Miley out there for back-to-back RBI doubles, which scored the tying and go-ahead runs for the Rockies. However, a ninth-inning home-run by Paul Goldschmidt, his twentieth of the year, got Miley off the hook for the loss. It followed earlier long balls by Aaron Hill, giving him 25 for the season, and Gerardo Parra (#7).

Goldie's shot took things into extra innings, the seventh time this year for the Diamondbacks. Both teams had their share of men on base there, but neither side was able to break the deadlock until the 13th, when the Rockies blew out Brad Bergesen and Mike Zagurski for four runs. The D=backs scored two and got the tying run on base with one out in the bottom of the 13th, but Chris Johnson and Gerardo Parra couldn't move it from there.

The Diamondbacks are back to .500 for the 24th time this year. Full recap to follow
