Pretty much where I expected to be after the first two games, albeit not quite in the manner anticipated i.e. courtesy of a meltdown by David Hernandez. Still, Saunders can clinch Arizona's fifth consecutive series victory with a win this evening, and would leave us with only six road games left the rest of the way. Admittedly, after the past couple of days, I am rather less concerned about the opening seven innings, than the eighth and ninth...
Interesting line-up today...
- Gerardo Parra LF
- Aaron Hill 2B
- Justin Upton RF
- Miguel Montero C
- Paul Goldschmidt 1B
- Geoff Blum 3B
- Collin Cowgill CF
- John McDonald SS
- Joe Saunders LHP
Yep, Parra starts a game in the lead-off spot, for the first time since May 2009. You'd think the random rolling of Gibby's line-up dice would have got him there in the meantime. Also, no RyRo and Chris Young gets another day off; in the latter's case, having started 136 of the first 140 games, he will only have done so one game in this series. Despite protestations to the contrary by Gibson, one does wonder whether Young's hand issues are more significant than being admitted.
Padres and Dodgers are already well under way in San Diego. The home team are currently clinging to a 2-1 lead in the seventh inning, but the Giants are threatening with men on the corners and one out. We'll obviously keep an eye on this one the rest of the way. [And the Giants just flew into a double-play, with the runner out at home! Hooray!] Rain in Denver meant batting practice was canceled - there's no apparent word of a delay to the start at this point, so we'll assume it's on-time at this point.
