We reach the three-quarter mark of the 2011 campaign this afternoon, with the Diamondbacks assured of first-place. Man, it feels pretty damn good to be writing that sentence, one I doubt we'd have been confident of making at the start of the year. But that's why we play the games. An important contest today, even though we have already assured ourselves of winning the series against the Mets, by taking the first two games. Partly because, it looks like the Giants are going to beat Florida, keeping the pressure on the D-backs, and partly because Marquis has a lot to prove, after two starts since coming to AZ, that could charitably be described as "turrible, just turrible."
- Willie Bloomquist SS
- Collin Cowgill LF
- Justin Upton RF
- Chris Young CF
- Ryan Roberts 2B
- Sean Burroughs 3B
- Paul Goldschmidt 1B
- Henry Blanco C
- Jason Marquis RHP
The left-handers take a rest: no Gerardo Parra, Kelly Johnson or Miguel Montero, replaced by Cowgill, Burroughs and Blanco respectively. After the past couple of days, I'm going to avoid any comment on line-up constructions: five wins in a row kinda speaks for itself. I almost called Goldie "Mark Goldschmidt," which I think may be due to our discussion yesterday at SnakePitFest, as to whether he should perhaps be labeled "Special K 2.0"...
Hotclaws guest-recappin' this one, so see you in the comments here, or for the post-game wrap-up.
