Chris Carpenter
RHP, 4-7, 3.74

Facing Carpenter isn't quite the same terrifying ordeal it might have been a couple of years ago, when he went 17-4 with a 2.24 ERA. While credible enough, his current ERA would, if sustained the rest of the way, be his worst for a meaningful number of innings since 2002. Walks and strikeouts are round about the same, he's just giving up a good chunk more hits. Opponents are batting twenty points above league average off Carpenter this year: his BABIP at .315 is slightly high, but that doesn't seem enough.Still probably not going to be easy though for Arizona.

Your Arizona Onegamebacks will be trying to put more pressure on the Giants, whose came starts a couple of hours later than us. They do have Timmeh starting, though he has a losing record this year, mostly thanks to the feeble nature of the SF offense. Mind you, given the Padres and Dodgers have managed a combined total of one hit over the front 16 innings this afternoon...
