With the Giants about to get swept out of Cincinnati - they're 8-0 down in the seventh inning - the Diamondbacks could almost certainly move within two games of San Francisco, if they beat the Dodgers this afternoon. That would set up a monstrous series against the division leaders next week, which would perhaps be the team's most important set of games in three or so years. But let's get this one in the bank before worrying about it. Can Upton continue his nuclear-heat streak? Will anyone else in the offense step up to help? Can Saunders continue his own run of quality starts? jinnah is guest recapping this one [with 'skins adding the bells and whistles, I'm sure!]

  1. Willie Bloomquist SS
  2. Kelly Johnson 2B
  3. Justin Upton RF
  4. Miguel Montero C
  5. Xavier Nady 1B
  6. Ryan Roberts 3B
  7. Gerardo Parra LF
  8. Collin Cowgill CF
  9. Joe Saunders LHP

Chris Young gets the day off. It's weird to write that, because of the 107 games this season, Young had started 106 of them - the exception going to Parra. Probably no bad thing, let's just hope Cowgill can produce, now he's got the "First hit" monkey off his back. It's odd, having two full months left in the season, but every game right now has the intensity of a playoff race. Go, D-backs, and turn the screws a little tighter on the Giants..
