The Arizona Diamondbacks announced today they have selected the contract of infielder Cody Ransom from Triple-A Reno and placed infielder Stephen Drew on the 15-day disabled list with a fractured right ankle, according to D-backs' Executive Vice President and General Manager Kevin Towers.
Ransom, 35, hit .331 (114-for-344) with 28 doubles, 3 triples, 26 home runs and 89 RBI in 92 games with the Aces. Among all minor leaguers at the time of his promotion, he ranked first with 89 RBI, second with 57 extra-base hits, third with 226 total bases, fourth with a .657 slugging percentage and a 1.069 OPS and tied for fourth with 26 home runs. He was named Pacific Coast League Player of the Week for June 20-26 after batting .462 (12-for-26) with 4 home runs, 7 extra-base hits and a league-leading 13 RBI.
Over parts of 8 Major League seasons with the San Francisco Giants, Houston Astros, New York Yankees and Philadelphia Phillies, he owns a .227 average (69-for-304) with 21 doubles, a triple, 9 home runs and 39 RBI in 219 games. Ransom signed as a minor league free agent on Nov. 19, 2010. He will wear No. 1.
