The Rockies did their part, beating the Giants 2-1 this afternoon, so it's now up to the Diamondbacks to take the opportunity presented, and move back into first-place in the NL West. To do that, we have to beat the slowest pitcher in the majors. I'm not necessarily talking about his delivery, but his fastball which comes towards the plate at a tempting average speed of 83.7 mph. That's 0.2 mph slower than the equivalent pitch of Mets knuckleballer R.A. Dickey. And it's positively supersonic, compared to Livan's majestic curveball, at 66.2 mph. I think hitters simply fall asleep waiting for it to reach the plate.

Those stocking up on Monster energy drinks for their trips to the plate this evening are:

  1. Ryan Roberts 3B
  2. Kelly Johnson 2B
  3. Justin Upton RF
  4. Stephen Drew SS
  5. Chris Young CF
  6. Xavier Nady 1B
  7. Gerardo Parra LF
  8. Henry Blanco C
  9. Joe Saunders LHP

Still no sign of Juan Miranda in the line-up. We'll see how the rest of the offense stacks up, and which Joe Saunders shows up this afternoon. Patience is likely to be the watch-word for our hitters: put good swings on the ball, rather than trying to smash it out of the park. Livan Hernandez isn't enjoying his 16th season in the majors for nothing, y'know. Oh, look at me, all giving advice to the professionals 'n' shizzle. :-)
