This is a provisional Gameday Thread, and may be replaced by the real thing at any time. As noted elsewhere, I'm whizzing off to Anthem in the morning, so might not be back in time to do this. It's 11:30pm and Mrs. SnakePit has already crashed and burned into soft, pillowy goodness - I really want to join her, so this might be brief.

Be interesting to see how Collmenter can handle the Sox. His struggles seem to have been more apparent when a team gets a second look at him. Is that familiarity breeding contempt, or is there some kind of scouting report making its way around the leagues [I wonder if teams share info on opposing pitchers, e.g. "I'll trade you a Collmenter scouting report for an Aneury Rodriguez"?] What has been notable in the last couple of Josh's starts is his pitch-counts: only five innings in each, but 102 and 97 pitches. Prior to that, he was averaging 15.2 per inning, and he did seem to have issue finishing off batters.

The good news is, there's an off-day tomorrow, and we only had to use Micah and Aaron last night, so the rest of the bullpen should be pretty fresh if needed. Humber, meanwhile, has been a very nice waiver-wire pickup for the White Sox. He was part of the Johan Santana trade that sent him from the Mets to the Twins, then went to the Royals for a bit, but didn't have much success, with a 5.26 ERA from 2006-10. This year has been something else, but his BABIP to date is .221, which is close to Collmenter's .209. This contest could be decided by who regression decides to bite first.

Zephon is your scheduled guest recapper this afternoon, taking a break from his fine work on SportsHaze to cover the game for us here [at the time of writing, I'm awaiting final confirmation of this - if not, it'll probably be me]. As yesterday, we're half a game back of the Giants, and today's game start almost simultaneously, so I'm sure we'll be keeping an eye on events in Oakland [go, A's!]

[Update] Safely back from Anthem, via Denny's. Here's this afternoon's line-up. Still no Kelly Johnson, which means we get Melvin Mora again. Joy]
