These Giants just seem to have the evil eye over us. Currently, we are 1-7 vs. San Francisco this season, which pretty much redefines the term "Giants baseball = torture," I reckon. It has been thanks in this series to a mix of hits from unexpected sources (Eli Whiteside has three triples since his 2005 debut) and Arizona's inability in the clutch. We turn to Ian Kennedy to end this, and a victory would leave us 1 1/2 games back: not good, but an awful lot better than the 3 1/2 back to which a loss would send the D-backs.

Ryan Vogelsong. WTF? In a seven-year major-league career, the journeyman had an ERA+ of 74, before pulling a Sean Burroughs and vanishing from the show after 2006. He pitched in Japan for a few years, failed to make it with the Phillies last year, but at age 33, appears to have been possessed by the spirit of Cy Young, posting a 1.81 ERA in almost 60 innings. Time for some regression to hit: this evening will be a nice start.
No Bloomquist in the line-up. I'm almost sorry, on reading this story.
