[DBacks.com] Collmenter, defense struggle in loss to Rox/Saunders stellar as D-backs split twin bill
- I'm still sort of stunned at Saunders outing. It seems like a completely different pitcher- not only shutting down the Rockies offense, but efficient in doing so. Fantastic.
-
[FS Arizona] D-backs' Saunders helps Arizona split with Rocks - "After I got knocked up a little bit on the ground, I thought 'I can't come out of this game.' Our bullpen would have been toast the rest of the week." And Joe was very aware of what we needed, too.
-
[AZ Central] Arizona Diamondbacks see six-game win streak snapped in blowout loss to Colorado Rockies in Game 1 of doubleheader/Joe Saunders helps Arizona Diamondbacks earn split with Colorado Rockies - In the first outing, we saw Collmenter get roughed up and our bullpen have a fairly notable stumble, after some recent smooth sailing. It was somewhat concerning.
-
[Purple Row] Rockies 12, D-Backs 4: Offense Ensures Rox Don't Lose Game After Losing De La Rosa/Diamondbacks 5, Rockies 2: Joe Saunders Stymies Rockies B Lineup - Of course, from the Rockies side of things, the final results of the games probably pale a bit to the fact that they've lost Jorge de la Rosa for the rest of the season. Just think about how we felt after losing Webb after that one start in 2009.

-
[AL.com] BayBears: Diamondbacks director of player development sees future in Mobile - Mike Bell has been looking at our young players, and is pretty optimistic with what we've got in our lower levels. "Our strength is right here in Mobile with this team and with our team in Visalia."
-
[DBacks.com] Gutierrez has stiffness in right shoulder - Looks like Guti might be headed to the DL- who's likely to get the call up from Reno to replace him?
-
[Yahoo! Sports] One play sets tone for Diamondbacks: A fan's reaction - The Diamondbacks, so far, seem to be awash in those intangibles many of us are skeptical of. A play like the tag Saunders made at the plate is a great example of it.
-
[Green Valley News & Sun] D-backs' bullpen success distracts from big picture - On the other hand, not everyone is very optimistic about the team.

[Baseball Nation] The Florida Marlins: Competing On A Budget Again - Yeah, we mock them for their low budgets and occasional- or more than occasional- fire sale. But, hey, for a team that doesn't have much to work with, they aren't bad...

[Hardball Times] THT Awards - The latest awards from THT discuss how "assigning wins and losses to a pitcher is an archaic practice that must stop." Though my favorite nerd-inspired line was "Any sufficiently advanced defense is indistinguishable from pitching."

[NBC Bay Area] Barry Bonds to Pay for Stow Kids' College - Wow, for a guy who we generally revile for everything he does, that's a pretty nice thing for Bonds to do.

[Yahoo! Sports] Jays' Reyes matches record with 28th winless start - He hasn't won a game since 2008. Wow.
