Diamondbacks Farm Round-Up: May 19

Only one victory for Arizona affiliates tonight, though the three defeats were by a combined margin of four runs, and we were only outscored 16-17 in total. Three good performances from our starting pitchers, one not-so good.

Snakelet of the Day:
Trevor Harden (High-A): 8 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 5 K

Triple-A: Reno 2 @ Albuquerque 3. A close-fought game came to a sudden end when Jason Urquidez allowed a lead-off homer in the ninth, to give the Isotopes victory over the Aces. Zach Kroenke had pitched well, limiting Albuquerque to two runs over seven innings, on five hits and two walks, with five strikeouts. The Aces outhit the Isotopes 10-7, mostly off former D-back Dana Eveland. 3B Mark Hallberg got three of them, including a pair of double, and C Konrad Schmidt also produced a couple of two-baggers. CF Collin Cowgill and RF Cole Gillespie each reached twice, with a hit and a walk.

Double-A: Mobile 7 @ Tennessee 9. Patrick Corbin struggled badly, getting tagged for all nine runs in only five innings of work. He allowed 13 hits, though didn't walk anyone and struck out three. The BayBears bullpen held the fort the rest of the way, with three scoreless innings - Clay Zavada's ERA is now down to 1.28 - but the offense couldn't quite come back. CF A.J. Pollock had three hits, and RF Marc Krauss reached three times on a hit and two walks. LF Ollie Linton and SS Taylor Harbin enjoyed two-hit games.  Your Daily Goldschmidt. Paul went 1-for-3 with a double, a walk, an RBI and two runs scored.

High-A: Visalia 2 @ Ranco Cucamonga 3. A real pitcher's duel tonight, with the Rawhide's Trevor Harden battling his opposite number on the Quakes, each going eight innings for one run. Harden held Rancho Cucamonga to five hits and a walk, striking out five, and was in line for the W after 3B Bobby Borchering's solo shot with one out in the ninth, his seventh of the year. However, Yonata Ortega blew the save opportunity, and two Visalia relievers failed to record an out in the tenth, on three hits and a walk.  We managed only six hits, with Borchering responsible for half of those. 2B David Nick got a hit and a walk, though the Rawhide's K:BB ratio was an unimpressive 14:1.

A-ball: South Bend 5, Lansing 2. Patrick Schuster had a good game, fanning eight Lugnuts batters in 6.1 innings of work, holding the visitors to two runs on seven hits and two walks. Eury De La Rosa got the next five outs, and Blake Cooper notched his sixth save with a scoreless ninth inning. C Raywilly Gomez got a hit and two walks, and there were two-hit nights for CF Ender Inciarte, who scored two runs, and DH Zach Walters, who stole his fifth base of the season. 1B Yazy Arbelo and SS Raoul Navarro chipped in with a hit and a walk. There was a healthy crowd of over 1,400 in attendance: Thirsty Thursday and $1 draft beers will do that!
