What can I say after five consecutive one-run losses? Not much, because Jim insists we keep this family-friendly.
Recaps:
-
[FS Arizona] D-backs edged by Dodgers, drop fifth straight - And in how many of these one run losses have we had the tying run on base in the ninth, or in scoring position? C'mon, guys, you should have at least got the run in on accident once or twice.
-
[DBacks.com] Late rally stalls as Saunders remains winless - Saunders hasn't been pitching as well as we'd have liked, obviously, but he deserves better than an 0-5 record.
-
[AZ Central] Diamondbacks' late rally not enough in loss to Dodgers - Nick Piecoro describes the Diamondbacks as being "in a full-fledged funk." I think the fans feel it, too.
-
[DBacks.com] Bloomquist to rest injured hamstring a few days - Willie B. is still waiting for his hamstring to heal up, so he'll take a few days off before continue his rehab.
-
[Yakima Herald-Republic] Going, going, gone? Yakima Bears likely to move to Vancouver - That's the Vancouver in southern Washington, not the one in British Columbia. I'm in favor of it, but I'm biased.
-
[HardballTalk] The last replacement player is released - The Diamondbacks released Ron Mahay from the minors today. Not super-notable, usually, except Mahay was the last replacement player from the 94-95 strike still playing professionally. Didn't the Diamondbacks have another one of the replacement players on the 2001 roster? I seem to remember someone being left out of the promotional pictures due to that.
-
[AZ Central] Diamondbacks' Melvin Mora still seeks Don Mattingly for advice - Oh, sure, go to the opposing team's manager for advice...
Around Baseball:
-
[Sporting News] Fan's mad dash at Minute Maid Park temporarily avoids security - Normally, I avoid posting things like this. But this guy either had some great planning, a significant amount of luck and improvisation, or a combination of both. Entertaining.
-
[New York Times] A Year Before the Black Sox, Whiff of Scandal Wafts Over 1918 World Series - Did the Cubs throw the 1918 World Series to the Red Sox? Man, who have thought Chicago was such a hot bed of crime?
-
[Boston.com] Baseball tickets from 1860s a rare find - Baseball history nerds, assemble! A collector in Massachusetts spent $60 on what might be some of the oldest baseball tickets still around.
-
[ESPN] Scoring is down in baseball, especially among West Coast teams - Are we seeing the second year of the pitcher, or an offensive drought?
