The day always seems nicer after a big win like that. The sun seems brighter, the air a bit warmer, the birds sing a little louder in the morning. Wait, no, I don't like any of those things. Which is great, because my cheerful post-baseball mood is complimented by the lovely weather in Phoenix today- temperatures in the 50s, a nice wind, and clouds everywhere with a chance of rain. Ah, just the way I like it.

[Dbacks.com] Kennedy stifles Reds in home-opening win - In the deep, cold depths of the season, when we're struggling through a rough patch and we're wondering why the season is 162 cruel games long, I want to look back at this game and remember just how much fun baseball can be.
-
[FSN Arizona] Kennedy dominates in D-backs' home opener - Kennedy ended last season strong- 2.13 ERA in his last nine starts- and with last night's outing, he's making the team look smart for putting him at #1 in the rotation.

[Red Reporter] Snake bit - Reds lose 13-2 to Dbacks, author reheats old device for title of recap - Red Reporter - Hey, given how many times I've seen ESPN use variations on "Supernatural" for a Johan Santana start, there's obviously no shame in reusing old titles.

[AZ Central] Arizona Diamondbacks roll in Chase Field opener - 9 Ks for Kennedy is his second best total for a game as a Diamondback, second only to his 12 K outing against the Padres last August.

[DBacks.com] D-backs face tough test on homestand - 27 of our first 37 games against teams that ended last year at .500 or better. Yesterday was the first of 12 of our next 18 against division winners. So my question is this- who angered the person who made the MLB schedule this year?

[Reno Gazette-Journal] Aces' opener delayed for 2nd day - Rain one day, and then snow the next. At least they're showing some variety in their postponements.

[MLive.com] Tigers honor Sparky Anderson at home opener; announce formal number retirement ceremony - Sparky Anderson, who died in November, will have his number retired by the Tigers. They scheduled the ceremony before the June 26th game against the Diamondbacks so that Kirk Gibson and Alan Trammell, who won the World Series under Anderson in 1984, can attend the ceremony.
-
[Yahoo Sports] Giants’ generosity a godsend to ill Loewenstein - I don't normally say much kind about our division rivals, but this is a great story- the Giants players voted to give a full World Series share to David Loewenstein, a former clubhouse attendant who is suffering from advanced Crohn's disease and diabetes.
-
[Post Gazette] Pirates beat Rockies in 14 innings, 4-3 - With the winning run on first and Andrew McCutchen in the on-deck circle, the Rockies pitched to Jose Tabata and he brought in the winning run with a double off the wall. Though the interesting thing is McCutchen wasn't up to bat next, the pitcher was- and that bit of trickery by Clint Hurdle is pretty much the main story from last night's game in Pittsburgh.
