I don't have numbers to back this up, but doesn't it always seem like when someone on the Cubs lights us up, it's always Alfonso Soriano? Actually, now that I look at numbers to back it up, that's not entirely untrue. He's got a 156 OPS+ against the Diamondbacks, highest of any team in the majors. Man, that's annoying.
Recaps:
-
[DBacks.com] Galarraga strong, but start spoiled by homers - Things have gone downhill for Galarraga since I predicted he'd got 30-0 on the season. Sorry about that.
-
[FSN Arizona] Diamondbacks done in by the long ball - Galarraga said "I've got too many home runs. I don't know what's happened to me." Maybe you got traded from a division that's predominantly pitcher's parks to one with some of the most hitter-friendly parks in baseball? Just a theory.
-
[AZ Central] Chicago Cubs hit three homers, beat Arizona Diamondbacks - Meanwhile, what Jack Magruder describes as a "brief spat" between Miguel Montero and Galarraga is referred to as a "dugout discussion" in the Republic. I didn't see the game, anyone want to chip in on which description is more accurate?
-
[Chicago Tribune] Carlos Zambrano, relievers do the job in Chicago Cubs 4-2 victory - Mike Quade: "Once we get the starting pitching straightened out, it should be fun to manage (the bullpen) because we have a ton of options that are almost all good." Sorry, Mike, I don't think it's ever fun to manage the bullpen.
-
[AZ Central] Arizona Diamondbacks' Chris Young stays at leadoff for now - "Kirk Gibson still has not decided on a permanent batting order." Does such a thing exist? After the past few years, I'm starting to think it's a myth.
-
[MiLB.com] Parker earns first win since surgery - Much better start than we've seen before from him, hopefully this is a good sign that he's on track to get back to what he was doing before surgery.
-
[Visalia Times-Delta] MLB feeling more of a Visalia presence - 30 players in the majors right now are Visalia alumni- many of them current or former Diamondbacks, including guys like Craig Counsell.
Around Baseball:
-
[North County Times] ESCONDIDO: Mayor wants ballpark site to become technology business park - You know how Tucson is the temporary home of the Padres AAA team? Maybe not as temporary as first planned. Well, the mayor of Escondido thinks the town should put a business park where the stadium is planned to go.
-
[ESPN] San Francisco Giants' Pablo Sandoval (broken wrist) out 4-6 weeks - However, the stupid panda hats will, I am certain, remain everpresent.
-
[HardballTalk] First-round bust Daniel Moskos arrives in majors - A bust? Maybe. Moskos was drafted over other names you might recognize- Matt Wieters, Jason Heyward, Madison Bumgarner, and Jarrod Parker.
-
[Baseball Nation] MLB All-Star Ballots: Too Early, Or Just Right? - It's not like people vote based on stats anyway, it's more on the recognizable names.
