Jon Niese
LHP, 0-3, 5.87

One of these things is not like the others... Well, two, I suppose. Or maybe three... Diamondbacks' pitchers who won three or more of our first fifteen games:

Player Year W L ERA CG SHO IP H ER HR BB SO WHIP
Randy Johnson 2000 3 0 1.01 2 1 26.2 14 3 2 2 34 0.60
Todd Stottlemyre 2000 3 0 5.06 0 0 16.0 20 9 3 7 10 1.69
Curt Schilling 2002 3 0 1.17 1 1 23.0 16 3 1 2 31 0.78
Randy Johnson 2002 4 0 1.80 1 1 30.0 22 6 2 7 34 0.97
Matt Mantei 2003 3 0 2.25 0 0 4.0 5 1 0 0 4 1.25
Brandon Webb 2005 3 0 3.26 0 0 19.1 18 7 1 8 12 1.34
Brandon Webb 2008 4 0 1.86 0 0 29.0 15 6 1 8 22 0.79
Micah Owings 2008 3 0 2.29 0 0 19.2 12 5 2 5 19 0.86
Armando Galarraga 2011 3 0 6.00 0 0 18.0 18 12 6 6 14 1.33

If Galarraga were to win today, he's become even more elite as the "4 in 20" club has currently only got five members - as well as the obvious pair of four-game winners above, Owings, Schilling and Johnson (2000) made it in there. So far, he's been the beneficiary of some impressive run support, but that has been a lot harder to come by in the past few games, so I think Armando will have to buckle down and pitch better, as well as perhaps wakening the sleeping bats.

Another early game, so I'm getting this written up sooner rather than later - as I write, Chad Qualls has just coughed up two runs in the 11th for the Padres, and been tagged with the loss for them, hehehe. The weather forecast for tomorrow in New York is still a bit flaky, with 60% change of a thunderstorm, from what I can see, so I'd bring a book or something, since we might be in for more delays. I'm hoping we can take a win to avoid the sweep: having prevailed in the first two contests of the road-trip, it's been downhill ever since.

Justin on the recap, providing the game doesn't get delayed or over-run too far, in which case I'll be helping him out. Making an early departure for Village Inn to beat the Easter Sunday crowd, aim to be back not too long after first pitch for this. [Morning update: weather forecast looks better, with the rain hopefully staying away until after 4pm. I think if we get started on time, there's a good chance we'll get it completed]
