Look, I was trying to come up with a good headline, but I saw we were playing Kansas City and Chicago, and now I'm just hungry for some ribs. I have to be careful typing, because I think Jim will dock my pay if I get sauce all over the Snakepit computer keyboards.
DBacks News:
-
[DBacks.com] D-backs keeping Mora out after car accident - No serious injuries, but he'll be sitting out for a couple of days, and we might see Ryan Roberts get some time at third. This certainly can't hurt Roberts's chances to make the team...
-
[Fox Sports Arizona] Diamondbacks bullpen off to favorable start - With the bullpen being the most glaringly weak part of the Diamondbacks last season, it's good to hear about some success out of there, even if it is only spring training.
-
[AZ Central] Willie Bloomquist a perfect role model for Arizona Diamondbacks - So, it's the veteran presence thing again. Which, in Bloomquist's defense, he's at least hitting better numbers (though less power) than Tony Clark and he's versatile, so it's not like that's his *only* value.
-
[New Times] Arizona Diamondbacks Want a First Baseman Who Plays Defense -- and Why That's a Bad Idea - Kirk Gibson said that the decision for who plays first base will be heavily influenced by their defense. The New Times thinks that's a pretty awful idea, and we should be looking at their bat, not their glove. "First baseman are supposed to mash and destroy. Russell Branyan mashes and destroys the ball. The other guys don't. It isn't complicated." (As an aside, the New Times seems to be making a much better effort at their baseball coverage this season than last. Good to see.)
-
[dbacks.com] D-backs set Spring Training total attendance record in inaugural season at Salt River Fields at Talking Stick - A new franchise record, at least, and by a fairly large margin. The DBacks per-game average so far is second only to the Yankees in Spring Training this season.
Around Baseball:
-
[Sports Illustrated] Seattle Mariners say Felix Hernandez is not on trade market - What? The Mariners don't want to trade a Cy Young winner who posted a 2.27 ERA in 249.2 innings last season? I'm shocked at that, just shocked.
-
[MLB.com] Jackie Robinson Foundation holds its annual Scholar Luncheon at MLB headquarters - It's nice to see Robinson's legacy continue to help kids.
-
[Beyond the Boxscore] The Top 50 Position Player Prospects (Based On Other Top 100's) - Sure, they say top 50, but they've got 69 of them. Three Diamondbacks appear, between #55 and #68.
-
[FanGraphs] Why Is Randy Wells Battling for a Rotation Spot? - The article is about the Cubs rotation, but it's an interesting look at teams manufacturing Spring Training competition for positions on the roster, even when the player deserves the spot.
-
[LA Times] Angels' Dan Haren continues to evolve - Oh, Danny boy...
-
[ESPN] Miguel Olivo of Seattle Mariners has strained adductor muscle - Be honest- before reading this headline, did you think an adductor was a muscle, or someone who fought in the war between Voldemort and Harry Potter?
