Paterson, Mickolio make Diamondbacks bullpen

New, 69 comments

With Ryan Roberts and Juan Miranda officially making the team last night, the last roster decisions have come down this morning. Rule 5 draft Joe Paterson and former Oriole Kam Mickolio have made the Diamondbacks squad in the bullpen. This means Esmerling Vasquez is the odd man out, and it looks like he will be optioned to AAA Reno.

Mickolio was acquired in the off-season deal that sent Mark Reynolds to the Baltimore Orioles. It appears it was a tight race between Mickolio and Vasquez. Vasquez's spring ERA was 2.35 to Mickolio's 4.38, though their total runs allowed was the same. Mickolio also had more strikeouts in fewer innings pitched and only one blown save to Vasquez's two. Both pitched scoreless innings yesterday in their final chances to show the Dbacks brass their stuff.

This completes the Diamondbacks' 25-man Opening Day roster barring any moves to the Disabled List.
