Baseball really is a strange sport to be a fan of. 162 games a year, many of which end terribly, and yet we still watch. A season that's been obviously a complete loss since roughly May, and yet we're still here. I think when Buddha said "Life is suffering," it was late summer and his team was all but mathematically eliminated from the playoffs.
Recaps:
-
[azcentral.com] Arizona Diamondbacks swept by Cincinnati Reds - "I did everything right, but I dropped it." So I wouldn't say you did everything right then, Rusty.
-
[dbacks.com] Streaking Reds too hot for D-backs - "We've got to pick Ryal up. Even though we made the error, we need to be better at stopping those things." But, to be fair, I think the team has been better at that than last season. It seems like we've seen fewer large-scale, complete failures. (Which isn't saying much.)
-
[cincinnati.com] Reds pummel Diamondbacks again - Pretty much no other way to put it.
Remember the Rockies? Sure you do, we play them about 78 times a year. Well, they're back.

[miamiherald.com] Colorado Rockies (62-58) at Arizona Diamondbacks (47-75) - CY on the Reds series: "Even though we didn't win any games in this series... You know, actually, never mind. We played a couple of bad games in this series." Best quote of the season?
-
[foxsportsarizona.com] Rockies at Diamondbacks, 6 p.m.- The Rockies have been struggling a bit lately, shut out in four of their last nine games. They do, however, have Troy "The Mullet" Tulowitzki back from the DL.

[cbssports.com] Rockies-Diamondbacks Preview - Carlos Gonzalez could miss at least part of the series here- he was injured running into the wall in Dodger Stadium to make a catch on Wednesday, and is still limping with some pain.
DBacks News:
-
[azcentral.com] Chris Young a bright spot for struggling Arizona Diamondbacks - Lines like this do make me like Kirk Gibson as manager. "If you bottom out, you're either done - or the way Sparky put it to me, 'I'll send you home and you can go cry on your mommy's shoulder,' - or you figure it out."
-
[foxsportsarizona.com] D-backs float idea of LaRoche extension - Might we see a return of LaRoche? "I am very happy here right now, not only because I like playing here and I like these guys but because I like the potential here."
-
[azcentral.com] Arizona Diamondbacks farm report: Brandon Allen seeing time in left field - And given rumors of a possible LaRoche extension, this is an interesting turn.
-
[bizjournals.com] Diamondbacks to don Los D-backs jerseys - Of course, since they've worn them for the past few years...
-
[KTAR.com] D-backs setting attendance records at Chase Field - "I certainly don't blame our fans. We've given them no reason to cheer for the last two years." I wonder what we might see out of the team to try to draw in fans for the next month and a half, or next year.

[espn.com] 1st Pitch: Pirates futility streak poised to continue - Yeah, it's been a frustrating couple of years for the Diamondbacks. But the Pirates are on the verge of their 18th consecutive losing season. Yeah, they last were over .500 in 1993. I'll just pause here for Wailord and Emily to say something that'll make me feel old.

[yahoo.com] Yeah, sure: Las Vegas mayor says city would get an AL team - The mayor of Vegas says the city should build a domed stadium, and they'd end up in the AL. Like the writer of this piece, I'm unconvinced they'd get a team. (Besides, if they did, why not NL? A Rockies-DBacks-Vegas rivalry could be pretty cool.)
