I guess we can look at it this way- the DBacks offense in the reign of Kirk Gibson is truly spectacular. Either spectacularly good or spectacularly awful, but it's one way or the other, right?
Recaps:
-
[dbacks.com] D-backs end skid with rout of Marlins - Much better outing for the Green Lantern than last time- rather than six errors, his teammates gave him 10 runs. Also, my compliments to the reviewer for using "irks" and "disconcerting" in the opening sentence of the review.
-
[azcentral.com] Arizona Diamondbacks take opener vs. Florida Marlins - "We weren't really sure what was going on." Oh, sure, Kelly Johnson was referring to a pre-game presentation by "the Human Calculator" (what?) but I think we all felt like that when the offense showed up.
-
[fishstripes.com] Fish Wrap - Marlins 4, Diamondbacks 10 - FishStripes called this "a game to forget." Oh, Marlins fans. Believe me, it could have been worse. Just ask a DBacks fan about The Balkoff.
-
[sun-sentinel.com] Florida Marlins lose series opener to the Arizona Diamondbacks at Chase Field - "Sanchez has now allowed six or more runs in just six of 66 career starts." Spooooooky.
DBacks News:
-
[dbacks.com] Drew discusses abundance of seeing-eye hits - Kirk Gibson would like his players to be more autonomous -- and, therefore, less reliant on their coaches -- when it comes to seeking and absorbing information.
-
[fstribune.com] College Sports: LaRoche, Marshall, and Reeves to be inducted to FSCC Hall of Fame - Adam LaRoche played at Fort Scott Community College under his dad, and he'll be inducted into their hall of fame in October.
-
Anti-All-Star team: Disneyland would reject these guys, too - MLB - CBSSports.com Baseball - An interesting list. An ex-DBack, a current DBack, and the bullpen get a mention. But someone should tell the guy who wrote it that BJ Upton doesn't play right field.
-
[renoaces.com] Aces-Sky Sox Series Opener Postponed - AAA game delayed for travel reasons- things are a little different in the minor leagues than in the majors.
Around Sports:
-
[motorcitybengals.com] Morosi: Rick Porcello Could be Dealt - Rick Porcello was the Tigers' top draft pick in 2007, and had a start moved back make him more available to scouts. With rumors the Tigers are interested in Drew or Haren, might the DBacks have someone in the crowd?
-
[seattletimes.com] Will Cliff Lee be pitching against the Mariners tonight? - The rumor mill is working at about 135% capacity right now over a Cliff Lee trade to the Yankees. Since he'd pitch this weekend, and the Yankees and the Mariners play each other, he'll be on the mound one way or the other. I think this makes it more of a necessity to send Chris Snyder to the Red Sox.
-
[SBN New York] Yankees Sign Chad Tracy As Infield Depth - Aw, Chad Tracy. Apparently you're just going to spend part of the year with every team I hate.
-
[AP] Unholy noise: UAE fatwa bans World Cup horns - Fatwa on vuvuzelas? Well, it was inevitable that the UAE would clash with the Snakepit eventually.
And that's all for today. Haren takes the mound to try to do something we haven't seen before- put together a win streak under Kirk Gibson. Go Dbacks!
