Gameday Thread, #84: 7/6 vs. Cubs

Carlos Silva
RHP, 8-2, 2.96

Barry Enright
RHP, 1-0, 1.80

And, to think, the Mariners actually paid the Cubs $6 million to take Silva off their hands, while also accepting the albatross-shaped Milton Bradley, who is hitting .211 for Seattle this year. Not that Silva has really helped the Cubs in the larger picture, since the rest of their pitching-staff have a record of 28-45. Still, why couldn't we have that kind of luck? Why couldn't they have taken Eric Byrnes instead? Oh, hang on... They did. :-(

Line-up after the jump.

  1. Chris Young, CF
  2. Kelly Johnson 2B
  3. Justin Upton RF
  4. Miguel Montero C
  5. Mark Reynolds 3B
  6. Adam LaRoche 1B
  7. Stephen Drew SS
  8. Gerardo Parra LF
  9. Barry Enright P

The Diamondbacks did a good job of Silva-slapping when we faced him on May 1st. We got eight hits and three walks off him in five innings, leading to five runs - the most he has allowed in a game all season. However, we still didn't win that one, as Bob Howry blew a 5-3 lead with two runs in the seventh, and Juan Gutierrez allowed two more runs in the eighth. Howry is, of course, now back with the Cubs, and specializes in allowing unearned runs, in the same way J-Gut allows homers.

Not going to be present for this one, as it's off to Mesa for the wrestling show. I'll see if I can position myself where I can see the ring and a TV, but doubt I'll be doing more than that. Even if they have wifi, I don't think taking the laptop to an area subject to heavily falling wrestlers would be wise. I'll be recapping this one when I get home, so might be a bit later than usual. And, almost certainly, Cthulhu-free - I failed my saving throw and lost d6 points of sanity after writing last night's one...
